Pleasure over purpose…
Less focus on the outcome
I took a solo trip to Paris this summer. It’s somewhere I’ve always wanted to go, and somehow never made my way there. Going into 2025 I wanted to make more of an effort to travel not just for what I do, but for my own pleasure.
I read somewhere recently that the French don’t use the word purpose like we do in America. There isn’t such a heavy focus on having a job they’re passionate about, but rather creating a life that is full of meaning.
I think this is the beauty of traveling and seeing the world through a new lens. We notice more. We taste our food, maybe not because it’s better, but because we are paying better attention.
This is something I’m taking with me into the new year. Less focus on the outcome, and more attention to the path getting there. I’m visiting home next week and I was talking to my Mom about what we’ll do together and she said “I just want to laugh with you.”
I think she “gets” it.
